Sandy Adland at WRJReport from the Women of Reform Judaism's 49th Assembly

Sisterhood member Sandy Adland (on right) is all smiles while attending the Women of Reform Judaism (WRJ) Assembly in San Diego last month.

Sandy took some time to share her thoughts and experiences as an attendee at this dynamic gathering:

Of the nine WRJ Assemblies I have attended over the years, this year’s assembly, WRJ’s 49th Assembly in San Diego, CA, was truly one of the grandest! The presence of our foremothers was palpable throughout the five-day WRJ Centennial celebration, as we looked back at their many accomplishments that have brought us to today, and began conversations about the future direction of WRJ. There were so many magical moments for me; celebrating Shabbat with nearly 5000 other Jews, dancing in the aisles to Miriam’s Song with my WRJ sisters from near and far, listening to a wide variety of great Jewish music, hearing addresses from, to name a few, Rabbi David Ellenson, Anat Hoffman, and Rabbi Rick Jacobs, who left all of us with the charge of offering “Audacious Hospitality” in our Temple communities. Our first-time-ever WRJ Assembly Choir, under the direction of Julie Silver, sang so beautifully, and I couldn’t have been more proud when WRJ received, on the occasion of our Centennial, the Maurice N. Eisendrath “Bearer of Light Award”, one of the Reform Movement’s most prestigious honors. We said thank you to Lynne Magid Lazar for her excellent leadership as our WRJ President and welcomed Blair Marks to the presidency with a beautiful and moving Installation service. We, as members of WRJ and Central District, truly are stronger together and we are in great hands as we go forth into our next 100 years, standing on the shoulders of our mothers who created for all of us such a strong and enduring foundation.

Invitation to Sponsor Oneg…

Sisterhood president Sandy Ternay has extended an invitation to the Sistahs to serve as hostesses for the Oneg Shabbat on Friday, February 21st, at which time a rabbi will be visiting Temple Beth Shalom as a candidate for our congregation’s spiritual leader.

Donations of tasty baked goods and treats are requested… in addition to a “few good women” who can assist with setting-up the Oneg in the Social Hall and then breaking it down at the end of the evening.

If you are unable to participate in any of the above activities, cash donations--made payable to the TBS Sisterhood--would be warmly welcomed and appreciated!
