Dear TBS Friends and Family,

This Sunday evening is our Kol Nidre Service and Monday is our Yom Kippur Service. It is customary to wear white as a sign of purity. It’s also customary to fast and refrain from drinking. Please don’t compromise your health for the fast. At our services we will continue the themes of opening our hearts as we face our relationship to Israel and the earth.

As Israel struggles with democracy, our special study session will focus on two articles written by Israeli authors requesting American assistance during these troubling times. Join us!

Please note that the Prayer Lab session scheduled for this Saturday morning was postponed.

Religious School Update
This Sunday, 9/24, we will have a regular day of Sunday classes! Our first in a month. We will focus on Yom Kippur themes, and we will begin to discuss the holiday of Sukkot.

TBS will again have guest tickets available to all holiday services and events. Guest Tickets	$175 all holiday services $100 one holiday
Student Tickets	Students are welcome at no charge for all services but require a ticket for entry. Please contact Amy at the address listed above.
Member Tickets	TBS Members receive High Holy Days tickets as part of their membership. Member tickets will be mailed to arrive 3 weeks prior to the holidays.

1:30 pm: Board Member Wendy Hess will lead the informal study session “What can we as Diaspora Jews do during the fight for Israel’s democracy?” Discussion materials will be provided. No preparation necessary. All are welcome.
3:30 pm: Rabbi Michael will lead his informal Q&A session “Ask the Rabbi”. All topics are open for discussion. All are welcome.

SPECIAL CONSECRATION & SIMCHAT TORAH CELEBRATION
FOLLOWED BY AN ONEG

TBS will celebrate two special ritual events at an interactive service for the entire congregation.
CONSECRATION. Kindergarteners Brady Weinstein and Talia Bronstein will be called to the bima to be consecrated in celebration of the beginning of their Jewish education. This is a lovely and meaningful ceremony for children and families alike. At TBS, Consecration is held as part of the Simchat Torah celebration.
SIMCHAT TORAH
Simchat Torah “Rejoicing with/of the Torah”, is a Jewish holiday that celebrates and marks the conclusion of the yearly cycle of public Torah readings, and the beginning of a new cycle. At TBS, we celebrate Simchat Torah by unrolling the Torah scroll down the center aisle of our sanctuary with the entire congregation helping. We then parade our Torah scrolls through the sanctuary while adults and children sing and dance together, expressing the joy that Jews feel in their possession and observance of the words of the Torah.
COMMUNITY ONEG 11 AM. As our celebration ends at about 11:00 am, we will enjoy a festive oneg in the Social Hall. Please RSVP to Laurie Frankino lfrankino@gmail.com with the number of family members attending before Monday, October 2.

WELCOME SONG LEADER CHUCK FINK
Robin and Jonathan Selinger are taking a sabbatical from their teaching duties at Kent State in 2023-4 to travel and participate in physics workshops and research collaborations worldwide.  In the first leg of their journey, they spent August in England at the Univ. of Cambridge. Later, the Selingers will make extended visits to the Southern University of Science and Technology in China, and to the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel. During her sabbatical, Robin will share the role of Cantorial Soloist with popular local musician Chuck Fink to keep the TBS community singing with joy throughout the year.

• Brotherhood  Membership
  Annual Brotherhood Membership Dues are due. Membership dues are $36 (double chai) and this year we are adding a sustaining membership level $54 (triple chai).   The Brotherhood performs much needed projects for TBS. Even if you cannot participate in Brotherhood, PLEASE CONSIDER MAKING A DONATION. This will help to complete the many projects planned for 2023-2024 for TBS.

• Next year, Jeanie Rhodes will be the president of the Sisterhood. Robin Rosen-Sharp has served as president for nine years and she deserves a hearty thanks. She’ll take over the Secretary-Treasurer position but would be willing for another Sister to come forward to take over these tasks.
