Dear TBS Friends & Family,
Please join us Saturday morning as Addie Meyer is called to the Torah for her Bat Mitzvah ceremony. Torah Study will take place in the boardroom from 9:00-9:45.
This past week has been filled with celebration and sadness as we mark Israel’s 78th birthday and its memorial day. Here are a few postcards from this busy week:
Monday – I attended a somber watch party with four rabbis for the Joint Israeli-Palestinian Memorial program in Tel Aviv. It honored the fallen soldiers, victims of terror and victims of war on both sides. This is the 21st annual joint commemoration.
Tuesday – My son’s 8th-grade class led the Yom Hazikaron program at his Jewish day school memorializing the fallen soldiers.
Wednesday morning – Attended the Jewish Day Schools’ amazing Yom Ha’atzma’ut parade with 1,000 students in Beachwood.
Wednesday evening – Attended the community celebration of Yom Ha’atzma’ut at Bnai Jeshurun.
We hold the great joy and the terrible pain side by side this year. TBS will have two amazing programs to celebrate this moment.
On Sunday, May 3, at 10:00 am, every TBS member is invited to join our religious school families in an Israel Dialogue with trained dialogue facilitators.
On Friday, May 8, we will have a special Israeli guest, Shahaf Palas, who will talk about her life in Israel as we read Israel’s Declaration of Independence.
Please join us at one or both of these special programs!
NEW! DAY OF LEARNING – Israel & Us – TBS Community Dialogue about Israel and Antisemitism
How has our relationship to Israel changed since 10/7? How are we navigating antisemitism in our lives?
On Sunday, May 3, every TBS member is invited to a special dialogue session about how we are dealing with our evolving relationship to Israel. Our school students will also be learning about Israel that morning. We will then have a delicious Israel lunch together!
We want to hear your thoughts, concerns and questions regarding your relationship to Israel and the rise in antisemitism. We will have small group dialogues to hear individual reflections. Each group will have its own facilitator. This will be a safe space, where every opinion is welcomed.
The program will be at 10:00 am. Please join us for this unique opportunity to share your thoughts.
Please RSVP to me by Thursday, 4/30 so we can have enough food and materials for everyone.

• Got Sneakers? The Social Action Committee is collecting used sneakers. April is Earth Day month! Donated sneakers will be refurbished for re-use or will be sent to a recycler who will extract as many materials as possible for reuse or sent to a waste-to-energy program. Our goal is to keep sneakers out of landfills and repair, reuse or recycle them. For sneakers in good condition, TBS receives a small amount of money to fund future Social Action causes. Please deposit your used sneakers to the bin marked as Got Sneakers in the Social Hall.
Note: athletic-wear only – no other type of shoe, boot or slipper. Rubber cleats are acceptable, but not metal cleats. Please deposit them attached as a pair by tying them together with the shoelaces or binding them with a rubber band. Adult and kids’ sneakers are welcome. Contact Cheryl Butensky at cheryl.butensky@gmail.com for more information.
• Collecting Items for Hudson Food Pantry
TBS has stepped up to fulfill a need of the Hudson Food Pantry. Your monthly donations of laundry detergent have been truly appreciated by our neighbors in need. Let’s keep up the momentum! We are asking for three TBS families to donate 2 large detergents — liquid, powder, or pods — each for a total of 6 per month. Families can sign up for a single month or multiple months. The detergents can be dropped off at TBS when open, i.e. Friday services, Saturday study sessions, Sunday school, etc. To sign-up to help go to https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0A4FABAF2EA3FE3-61572875-tikkun or scan the QR code:
The pantry has also made a special request for body wash, deodorant and hand sanitizer and juices. These items can also be dropped off any time during the month and there is no sign-up for these items.
For more information about the pantry, see http://www.hudsoncsa.org/food-pantry. For questions about the donation process, please contact Michelle Draper at mldraper@yahoo.com. Thank you!
