The search committee to identify and select a new education director has been hard at work since late April and has completed its task. The committee was chaired by Rebecca Egolf and its members were Kim Strausser, Eric Chupack, Amy Chupack, Rabbi Jim Egolf, Jean Beasley, Aron Cymerman, Randy Herman, and Laurie Frankino. Thanks to all of these members for their service.
The committee had the opportunity to interview and consider three excellent candidates. Ultimately one was our clear, unanimous favorite, and we are pleased to announce her selection as the new Education Director for TBS. Here’s a little bit about Leah:
Leah Levenstein brings more than twenty years’ experience in Jewish leadership and programming to produce quality Jewish engagement opportunities for all ages. She has served as Education Director and in other positions at Temple Israel Akron for the last ten years. She also has Jewish education experience at the Shaw JCC, BBYO, and numerous synagogues. She is originally from Pittsburgh and attended the University of Pittsburgh as well as completing graduate work at Hebrew College in Boston. She is married to Mike Levinstein, an administrator at Kent State. They have four children, Jonah, Eitan, Yael and Ruby, ranging from 9 years old to 9 months old. Leah enjoys long talks over coffee and when she can sneak some time for herself, she rejuvenates through writing, swimming, and anything crafty.
We are so excited to welcome Leah and her family to this position and to our congregational community. Leah attended the annual meeting last night and met many TBS members. We’ll let everyone know when we can greet her husband and kids at a date later this summer.
