In a week marked by another antisemitic attack against the Jews in Boulder, CO, this was a horrible moment.
It was also a week marked by the stunning beauty of Shavuot Sunday and Monday and an amazing Beit Din for one of our members.
TBS is responding to these challenging times with enhanced security measures. We have begun implementing a new security door, and new security entrance system. Cameras are being installed for both the outside and inside of the building. Our board recently applied for and received a $100,000 grant for these huge security improvements. At the recommendation of JFC Security, our marketing and PR for Pride Shabbat shifted to a word-of-mouth campaign, to make sure we know everyone who enters our space this year.
We need to respond with pride in our community. We need to respond with the joy and comfort of communal embraces and communal celebrations.
So a few hours after the attack, my wife and I joined 400 folks at the Shavuot teachings at Bnai Jeshurun. We were joined by a minyan of TBS folks who came to learn with us until after midnight. On Wednesday, we held a lovely beit din as Michelle Touve-Holland entered the mikvah and emerged as a Jew!
This Friday is Pride Shabbat. I urge all of you to make every effort to attend. We need this communal outpouring of love and support for each other. We need to support our LGBTQ friends and family. We need to formally welcome Michelle into our community, and we need to give Danny Cinotti a dress rehearsal, by leading parts of the service in preparation for his Bar Mitzvah next week. We need Shabbat.
Please join us, and bring a friend or two.
Please let us know in advance who you are bringing.
You can email me at rabbimichaelross@gmail to add their names to our guest list for Friday evening.
New Group Starting – Intro to Jewish Meditation
On Thursday, 6/12, at 7:30 pm, I will be hosting a new group. I will lead an “Introduction to Jewish Meditation.” Our first two gatherings in May were amazing.
In these chaotic days, finding a grounding practice has been invaluable for me. We will explore basic mindfulness practices as we spiritually prepare for Shabbat.
This group will be for both beginning students and advanced students. To start, we will meet every other week through May and June.
Helping Danny Cinotti’s Mitzvah Project
My name is Danny Cinotti and I am 13 years old. I have decided that for my Bar Mitzvah project I would like to help a local animal rescue. The animal rescue that I chose to help is called Roses Rescue. My goal to help this rescue is to collect donations of dog and cat stuff that the rescue needs to help dogs and cats. Please help my mitzvah project by donating any items on the list below:
• Martingale collars (especially medium, small and x-small) • Leashes • Toys (tough and stuff-able) • Nylabones • Puppy pads/wee wee pads • Dog food – canned and dry • Treats/biscuits • Dog beds • Cat toys • Clumping kitty litter • Kitten food – canned (please no seafood) • Cat beds – new • Cat nip
All of these supplies will go to help homeless and injured pets at Roses Rescue.
Please drop off donations at either:
– Temple Beth Shalom; 50 Division Street, Hudson, OH 44236 – My front porch; 2721 Calais Drive, Stow, OH 44224
