e-Megillah
Thursday, May 9, 2024 Letter from Rabbi Ross This past week I attended the May 4 Memorial at Kent State, which also was the sight of the campus protest against the Gaza War by pro-Palestinian students. I will discuss these events after our service Friday night, but the main takeaway is that the protest was mostly peaceful, and was not physically violent. Last Monday was Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day. We will commemorate that as well Friday evening. We are also going to celebrate Israel’s Independence Day this Friday. Join us at TBS for these powerful experiences. Religious School Updates – We have begun advertising for a new education director for next fall. Please let us know if you know anyone who might be interested! We have formed a search committee for this opening, and will be sharing info and details in the weeks to come. – Our final day of religious school is May 19. JEWISH STUDIES FUNDRAISER On Thursday, 5/16, Kent State’s Jewish Studies Department will have a retirement party for its amazing, outgoing director Chaya Kessler. This is the 50th anniversary of the department, but Jewish Studies needs our help to survive! Please check out the flyer. I would love to see many TBS faces there! You can donate to this fundraiser at this link: JEWISH STUDIES Judaism 101 – 12 Sunday afternoons (3/3-5/12 at 4:00 pm) If so, this class can form a great foundation to get you started. We will focus on Jewish history, holidays, ideas and traditions.

TBS Sisterhood meetings/events Visit to the Cleveland Museum of Art
• We had a nice visit to the Cleveland Museum of Art on Sunday. Our docent invited us connect to art with impressionistic seas, uncaged birds and strange and wonderful plants. Over afternoon coffee we sat with Mark Jacobson, Jewish educator, to ponder when we plant any tree for food “this is an imitation of God, who filled the newly created world with every manner of tree for food” (Leviticus Rabbah 25:3). • Next events are a dinner out in the planning stages and the Sisterhood late June Service. • It is time to send in any photos you would like to share for the service booklet to jeanrhodes16th@gmail.com. • We are also planning a walk/hike in the CVNP led by Marcy Caplin, Beth Madis and Randy Herman. There will be a longer and shorter walk to meet all abilities. Randy will be our ornithologist on the hike! She will be pointing out birds and other wildlife. • I would like to gauge interest in a car pooling to the community-wide All-night Learning Tuesday June 11, 2024 (Erev Shavuot). It is a splendid thing to do. And we need not stay all night! Let me know if you’d consider it at jeanrhodes16th@gmail.com.
