Sisterhood

Sisterhood Celebrates an Astounding Year

Those of us in attendance at services on Rosh Hashanah day heard TBS Trustee and Building Committee chair, Eric Chupack, speak about the many enhancements to our synagogue... as well as the accomplishments of the Brotherhood in the past year.

Our TBS Sisterhood is proud to report that we too had an impressive, productive, fun, amazing and “bodacious” year!

It’s no wonder that Hudson’s Sisterhood has received numerous national, district and regional awards and recognition from WRJ (Women of Reform Judaism). Our leadership and our members are dedicated, motivated, talented, compassionate and passionate individuals.

Let’s take a look back at Sisterhood’s many accomplishments and celebrations:

Last year, just prior to Rosh Hashanah, the Sisterhood and Brotherhood collaborated in hosting a Religious School welcome back party for parents. The event was made more special with the presentation of commemorative “goodie bags” for all returning students, compliments of Sisterhood.

The Sisterhood Book Club offered three gatherings- one of which included local author, Irv Korman. Thanks and appreciation go to all of the sistas who hosted and facilitated the Book Club events.

The Lilith Salon gatherings provide opportunities to read and comment on articles from the Lilith Salon magazine- a publication which calls itself “Independent, Jewish & Frankly Feminist.” Two gatherings, one of which was in a Sukkah, were stimulating, informative and thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you to the sistas who rolled out the red carpet of gracious hospitality for all the guests!

Sisterhood Dinner Out events provide an opportunity to schmooze, dine and enjoy the bonds of friendship and camaraderie. The sistas landed at Mad Jack’s Grill & Pub in Aurora; Cilantro Thai & Sushi Restaurant in Akron; The Office in Akron; the Twisted Olive in Green; and most recently... as depicted in the photograph... at Lager & Vine in Hudson. (The efforts of those who so capably coordinated these dinners and tracked reservations are gratefully acknowledged and appreciated).

The sistas enjoy a "between the holidays" dinner at Lager & Vine on September 16th.

Last November, Sisterhood members from states comprising the Central District of WRJ, gathered in Columbus for their annual convention and installation of officers. Several Hudson and Canton Sisterhood members were on hand for the festivities- which included awards presentations and a basket raffle auction to benefit the WRJ YES Fund. (Hudson’s basket fetched an impressive $150.00!)

Also, in November, the “paid-up” sistas were treated to a delicious lunch and a dynamic and memorable program. (Watch for details regarding this year’s Paid-Up Member Luncheon on Sunday, October 18th at TBS).

Sisterhood’s spectacular, sizzling Annual Frying of the Latkes is not only a fun event, it is always hugely successful in its mission to enhance the Hanukkah holiday and to generously support our congregation and our Sisterhood. Every year it just keeps getting bigger and better! And, the annual Latke Fry truly reflects the essence of team work and a collaborative spirit!

Another “assembly-line” event which took place in the TBS kitchen was the pre-Passover “Charoset Chop.” Several Sisterhood members shared their time and culinary talents by providing traditional Passover foods for the congregational Second Seder; and dedicated Sisterhood and Brotherhood members were also acknowledged for skillfully assisting with set-up in the Social Hall.

On the eve of Shavuot, several Sisterhood members prepared delicious cheesecakes for sharing at the special holiday Oneg. (These culinary treats were enjoyed by all; and special recognition was given to one creative baker).

Annually, Sisterhood’s gift to the congregation comes in the form of hosting a Shabbat service and delicious Oneg. These services are always meaningful and inspirational. Thanks and appreciation go to all of the Sisterhood members who make this event so special and memorable.

Another annual event is the always fun, fabulous and frolicking Sista & Guest Night. Held on a cold, snowy, icy and blustery February night, this gathering enabled the foodies to show off their culinary skills. The “Florida Road Trip” theme prompted guests to leave their boots at the door in exchange for flip-flops and island-motif tee shirts. A great time was had by all!

Spring and summer events included participation in Community Mitzvah Day and a “Shop Til Ya Drop” meal and outing with the women from Akron’s Temple Israel Sisterhood.

The past year also noted a few General Membership meetings at which time Sisterhood members provided suggestions for activities and events to come.

Again, thank you to the officers, members and guests who continue to support our TBS Sisterhood. Borrowing from Frank Sinatra’s lyric: “It was a very good year...”
