Join us this Friday for a Musical Shabbat Service. We will explore the special Haftarah reading about Elijah the Prophet, who goes to Mount Sinai and hears the “still, small voice.”

TBS ANNUAL MEETING – YEAR IN REVIEW
On Friday, June 23, 6:30 pm, the TBS Board of Trustees, led by Co-Presidents James Field and Laurie Frankino, met with interested congregants in the Social Hall to review our fiscal year July 1, 2022-June 30, 2023.
Here are the highlights:
- Rabbi Michael Ross reviewed by month our many accomplishments in setting new programming, service enhancements and social activities, and challenged us to continue to work together to further engage our temple community
- James Field presented challenges and opportunities
- 9 new member families joined TBS this year
- In-person services & activities are back in place 100%
- Grant opportunities have been identified to enhance our religious school program
- Need to identify a Co-President replacement for Laurie Frankino
- Challenge to increase membership to better meet our fiscal responsibility
- Challenge to encourage more current members to support the temple monetarily &/or with in-kind services
- Challenge to encourage more current members to participate in temple programming
- Laurie Frankino presented our religious school plans for 2023-2024
- A Task Force of TBS members is working with the Jewish Education Center (JEC) to assist us in selecting a new Education Director for our school to replace Rabbi Brown
- With assistance from Rabbi Brown, Jean Beasley and Laurie Frankino created an exciting, challenging new curriculum and guidelines for religious school grades K-7 beginning this fall
- We need a religious school teacher for Sunday classes Grades 3-5. Lesson plans will be provided. Please contact Jean Beasley for further information jbeasley826@gmail.com

- Laurie finished her 2 year term as co-president but we are still seeking her replacement to serve with James
- Robin Rosen Sharp retired after 9 years as a trustee and Sisterhood President
- Jean Rhodes, currently a trustee, will also serve as Sisterhood President
- Eric Draper finished his term as Brotherhood President
- Mike Miller, currently a trustee, will also serve as Brotherhood President
- Jonathan Selinger finished his term as Immediate Past President but will continue as Treasurer

FIRST SERVE Day of Service Early RSVP
Temple Beth Shalom will be joining with the First Congregational Church of Hudson and the Islamic Community Center for an annual interfaith day of worship through service. Working in conjunction with other faith partners and community organizations in Akron, teams of volunteers work together for one day on a variety of projects in the North Hill neighborhood. There are projects and experiences for all ages and ability levels. In addition to traditional hands-on projects, First Serve 2023 will offer new cultural immersion experiences to help expand participants’ appreciation and understanding of the rich and vibrant cultures that make up the North Hill community of Akron.
Please take a minute to RSVP by clicking the registration link below to let us know if you and your family members will be joining us for First Serve 2023 on Sunday, September 10, 8am-3pm. We will email you in early August with a link to project details and sign-ups.
TBSBrotherhood meetings/events
• Sun. 7/23, 2:05 pm – Rubber Ducks. Meet at the ticket office @ 1:45 pm
• Sun. 8/13, 9:00 am – Brotherhood meeting at TBS. Join us for bagels and coffee.
• Fri, 8/18, time TBA – Outdoor Service and Cookout at Hudson Springs Park – Brotherhood Grill Masters will transport the grill and cook for the event.
We meet throughout the year in the spirit of friendship and good humor. We sponsor social events, fundraisers and building beautification projects to support and enhance the TBS community. Contact: Eric Draper at ej_draper@yahoo.com
TBSSisterhood meetings/events
• Next year, Jeanie Rhodes will be the president of the Sisterhood. Robin Rosen-Sharp has served as president for nine years and she deserves a hearty thanks. She’ll take over the Secretary-Treasurer position but would be willing for another Sister to come forward to take over these tasks.
