Letter from Rabbi Ross

Rabbi Michael RossDear TBS Friends and Family,

It was such a joy to see many of you at our Rosh Hashanah services earlier this week! We had a lovely Torah Parade with a great group of religious school students. In preparation for Yom Kippur, we will have a special Prayer Lab study session this Saturday at Hillel. Lox, bagels and cream cheese will be served! Then on Tuesday evening we will gather for Kol Nidre and Yom Kippur services.

Yom Kippur traditions:

  • Some wear white in honor of a day of purity.
  • Some refrain from wearing leather.
  • Some fast. (Please don’t let the fast make you ill.)
  • Some refrain from marital relations.
  • Some refrain from perfumes.

It’s a day of somber reflection, cultivating humility, and connecting to the community. The blessing for this week is “g’mar chatimah tovah,” may you finish with a good seal. Some also wish “tzom kal,” may the Yom Kippur fast be light and meaningful.

SPECIAL PRAYER LAB & Bagel Brunch – at Hillel – Sat. 10/1 at 9:30 am

It’s Homecoming this Shabbat at Kent State. “Prayer Lab” will take a field trip to the Hillel building for a special session. This Saturday we will explore Kol Nidre as we prepare for Yom Kippur. We will also look at the Yom Kippur Torah readings. Lox, bagels and cream cheese will be served. All are welcome!
